Eight EHS Students Participate in State Government Event
JEFFERSON CITY - Each year, students from Missouri high schools have the opportunity to participate in the Missouri Youth and Government (MOYAG) conference the second weekend of November in Jefferson City. Elsberry High School had eight participants in this year's conference. The group was accompanied by chaperones Carolyn Wehmeyer and Emily Bange. This gives students the opportunity to learn and participate in three aspects of government in the setting of the State Capitol. Legislators meet in committees and in the House and Senate chambers to debate legislation. Attorneys try an appellate case before student judges and engage in a trial competition. The entire event is covered by the student media. Participants also engage in campaigns and elections for Presiding Officers who will serve during the following year.
