IMG_1791It was a beautiful Saturday morning when approximately 200 people came together for the first ever Jillian Young Memorial 5K Run/Walk.

“We raised $4440,” said Amy Martin, coordinator for the event. “The turn out was phenomenal. So much so that I plan to make this an annual event.”

Prizes were handed out to the first male and female finishers. Receiving them was Beth Slaughter with a time of 27:25 and Will Megl with a time of 19:05. According to Slaughter, this was the first time she has ever received an award for finishing first and was extremely proud that it was at this event.

“From start to finish it all flowed smoothly and everything fell into place,” said Martin. “Not only did the community come together to pitch in and help for the event but they also came out in large numbers to support the event.”

Martin said the best feeling about all this was how much the family of Jillian Young appreciated it and how much they were able to raise.

“My proudest moment was the day of the race everyone being there and showing their support,” expressed Martin. “Also for me to be there with the Young family and let them know how much Jillian is missed by everyone being there and showing their support.”

With a happy heart, Martin said she wanted to thank everyone who came out and help make this a great event. All the money raised will go to the Jillian Young Memorial Scholarship.

“I know it really meant a lot to the family to see everyone come and show their support,” said Martin. “Jillian is very missed by everyone.”
