Summer vacation is officially over for children in the Elsberry R-II School District.
On Aug. 14 leisurely summer mornings will be replaced by the shrill cry of alarm clocks and breakfasts that are either wolfed down in two or three huge bites or hardly even touched at all and pajamas and hours in front of the television will give way to new school clothes and races to the bus stop.
In time the novelty associated with the start of a new school year will fade and students will once again fall into the same old safe and reliable patterns that the typical school day has always provided.
Before that happens, however, they will have to get accustomed to a few changes, just as they have in previous years.
