While most of the construction at Elsberry Schools was completed before the first day of classes, there was one area that is just now being completed. The high school gym, locker rooms and weight room area have now been completed. This delay, in turn, hindered the high school and middle school PE classes.
Trudy Bull and, newcomer to the district, Aaron Johnson, have been limited to sharing the rubber gym for their classes. Plus, you add in the extreme heat from the past two weeks, and they have had to limit their time outside.
Coach Bull has been able to get out in the morning hours, when temps are lower, to teach her students about soccer. In early day classes Coach Johnson has had his students completing their physical fitness tests. When both classes are in the gym, friendly competition in dodge ball, mat ball and wiffle ball take place so that some physical activity is achieved for the students.
This year Coach Bulls’ schedule includes seventh grade girls PE, eighth grade girls PE, HS girls PE and four elementary grades on a rotating daily basis. Along with regular PE classes for boys, Coach Johnson also teaches Life Sports and Weight Training for high school students.
