Several taken to hospital following two separate accidents

AccidentsMissouri State Trooper N.A. Cockrum was quite busy during the week of the Oct. 5 – 9 as he reported to two separate accidents involving Elsberry residents and one involving two 13-year-old drivers.

At 5:29 p.m. on Oct. 5 he was on scene after a 1984 Buick Park Avenue, driven by Christopher Haven, 42, of Winfield failed to yield when making a left turn and was struck by a 1996 Eagle Vision, driven by Pierce Howard, 29, of Winfield. Haven was traveling Eastbound when the accident happened, near the intersection of Hwy. 47 and Hwy. W. Christopher Haven was taken to St. Joseph West Hospital by Ambulance, as was his passenger Jesse Haven, 25, of Elsberry.

Howard was also taken by ambulance to St. Joseph West Hospital. All suffered moderate injuries and none were reportedly wearing their safety devices.

Then at 3:20 p.m. on Oct. 9, Cockrum was on scene again after a 1987 International Harvester, driven by Eric Heitman, 36, of Elsberry, failed to stop at a posted stop sign and traveled into the path of a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Anna Cleeton, 67, of Louisiana.

According to the report Cleeton was traveling northbound and Heitman was traveling Westbound. The accident happened on Hwy. 79 at Old Dameron Road. Cleeton suffered moderate injuries and was taken to St. Joseph West Hospital by Lincoln County Ambulance and her vehicle, which was stated to have extensive damage, was towed by Jackson’s Towing.

Finally at 10:57 a.m. on Oct. 13 Cockrum was on e scene when a Nicholas Maiuro, 13, of Eolia, was negotiating a curve in the roadway and traveled off the right side of the road at Erica Drive, just south of Levi Lane. Maiuro overcorrected and caused the 2011 Polaris Ranger he was driving to overturn. Although he was driven from the scene with minor injury, his passenger Christopher Cannon, 13, of Silex was taken to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis by Air Evac with serious injuries. Cannon was not wearing his safety device at the time of the accident.
