On May 9 the Elsberry Indians celebrated Senior Night with a 10-0 win over Mark Twain at home.
Senior Brandon Mound was the starting pitcher for Elsberry that night.
In what would prove to be his last start as an Elsberry Indian, Mound went out and made his coach proud.
“He only gave up two hits and maybe one walk,” said Head Coach Dustin Robinson. “The rest of the time he managed to keep Mark Twain’s hitters off balance.”
Mound threw all five innings and closed out his senior year in style.
“It was nice to see him rebound from his performance against Washington on May 3,” said Robinson. “Especially considering that it was senior night.”
That’s not to say, however, that Mound didn’t have some help along the way.
Senior Caleb Vitro contributed three RBIs to the win against Mark Twain, while Matt Henry, Dylan Howard, Seth Doeren, Alex Henke, Ethan Pott, Tyler Turnbull and Josh Phillips each contributed one apiece.
“It ended up being a really good night for us,” said Robinson.
Mound was the player of the game for the Indians, having pitched the complete game and allowing only two hits.
“That was a big lift for us going into the doubleheader on Saturday,” said Robinson.
The win brought the Indian’s record to 10-10 overall and 5-6 at home.
