Robert Wade – Howard Ross – Marjorie Ella (Waggoner) Snyder Bowers

Graveside Services for Robert Lainel Wade of Elsberry, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville. J. Larry Carter of Carter-Ricks Funeral Homes, will officiate.

Mr. Wade, 92, died Saturday night, Feb. 2, 2013 at Elsberry Health Care Center in Elsberry. Born Jan. 22, 1921 in Mannington, KY, he was the son of Eula and Emma McKintosh Wade. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II from Sept. 12, 1942 until being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on April 19, 1946. He was united in marriage on June 10, 1944 in England to Pearl Reeves. This union was blessed with two sons: Randell Michael and Geoffrey Kendall. He worked as an inspector for General Motors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eula and Emma Wade; one son, Geoffrey Wade on April 13, 1998; one brother, Edward Wade; two sisters: Phonita Dorothy Ladd and her husband, John, and Ruth Simmons and her husband, Ernest; and his beloved wife of 65 years, Pear Wade on Aug. 31, 2009.

Survivors include one son, Randy Wade and his wife, Susan, of Elsberry; seven grandchildren: Tyger Hill and her husband, Kevin, Storm Davis and Christy Steen and her husband, Chris, all of Elsberry, Angie Williams of Wright City, Elizabeth Wade of Quincy, IL, Danny Payne, and Dustin Payne, both of KY; and three great-grandchildren: Hailey Williams, Maddox Wade and Ella Gay. He also leaves one sister, Agness Shemwell of Herrin, IL; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Howard Ross

Funeral Services for Howard Randall “Ranny” Ross of Elsberry, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. Rev. Allen Calkins, church pastor, officiated with burial in Star Hope Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Jeremy Ross, Davey Ross, Eddie Ross, Jim Jenkins, Jacob Blackwood, Ray Heil and Ferd Dames. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Cordsiemon, Denny Lovelace, Fred Hagemeier and Glenn Oney.

Mr. Ross, 69, died late Monday night, Jan. 28, 2013 at his home. Born Oct. 26, 1943 in Elsberry, he was the son of Howard Albert and Frances Bell Beck Ross. He was a 1961 graduate of Elsberry High School. He was united in marriage on Dec. 12, 1964 in Winfield to Barbara May Hilton. This union was blessed with two children: Jeremy and Angie. He worked as a farmer for Ross Farms. He enjoyed softball, bowling and commercial fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Ross.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Barbara Ross of Elsberry; one son, Jeremy Ross and his wife, Christy, of Elsberry; one daughter, Angie Jenkins and her husband, Jim, of Kansas City; and three grandchildren: Jacob Blackwood, Taryn Wells and Aerial Ross. He also leaves his mother, Frances Ross of Elsberry; two brothers: David Ross and his wife, Brenda, of Foley and Eddie Ross and his wife, Lori, of Elsberry; three sisters: Faye Dames and her husband, Ferd, of Palmyra, Lisa Schneider of O’Fallon and Ronda Heil and her husband, Raymond, of Foley; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation washeld from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.

Marjorie Ella (Waggoner) Snyder Bowers

Marjorie Ella (Waggoner) Snyder Bowers, a terrific wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law and friends, passed into heaven at the age of 93 years and four months, on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013. At the Littleton Adventist Hospital in Littleton, CO. She was born to Bower Douglas Waggoner and Susie Alice McHugh of Elsberry on Sept. 1, 1919. Marjorie graduated from Elsberry High School and married Robert Loving Synder on Sept. 2, 1940. They had two daughters, Gayle Snyder Sumner of Albuquerque, NM., and Jill Snyder Porter of Littleton, CO.

Marjorie was known for her friendly, outgoing personality and greeting everyone with a big smile. She loved to play bridge and cherished her friends that she played bridge with in Elsberry.

She was an avid Democrat and served for a time as the Lincoln County Democratic Committee Woman. Marjorie enjoyed the time she worked for Representative Hungate at the Missouri State Capital in Jefferson City.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elsberry and Sappington Road Baptist Church in St. Louis, Mo. when she and Robert moved to St. Louis.

Marjorie was a certified cosmetologist for a short period of time and then worked eighteen years for the Chief of the Department of Surgery, Dr. Everitt Lerwick at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. She was also a member of the National Registry of Medical Secretaries. She received a certificate of appreciation from the Missouri Baptist Medical Center when she retired.

She was a terrific cook and hosted most of the family get-togethers. She could fry up a “mess of catfish” that Uncle Gene would catch on the Mississippi river, along with the best coleslaw and cornbread, and the whole family would feast. She also had the best fried chicken and roast that you can imagine.

Robert passed on, Dec. 9, 1977. Marjorie met Wilson G. Bowers when they were working on the campaign for Richard Gephart and they married on Feb. 14, 1987. They moved to Denver, CO. and enjoyed a wonderful marriage, became members of Calvary Baptist Church then Arapahoe Road Baptist Church in Littleton, CO. until Wilson passed on in August, 2001.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Bower Douglas Waggoner and Susie Alice McHugh Waggoner, her first Husband Robert Loving Snyder; her second husband, Wilson G. bowers; her brothers, J.D. Waggoner, William B. Waggoner, Glenn T. Waggoner and R. Gene Waggoner.

She is survived by her daughters Gayle Snyder Sumner of Albuquerque, NM and Jill Snyder Porter (RusselI Porter) of Littleton, CO.; her grandchildren, Jason Scott Sumner of Seattle, WA., Monica Shea Sumner (Ian Downs) of Whately, MA., Dr. Erica Snyder-Notz Moeller (Jeffery Moeller) of Littleton, CO., and great-grandchildren , Lydia Ellla Shea Sumner of Seattle, WA., Ethan Robert Weston Sumner of Whately, MA., Mace Sumner Downs of Whately, MA., and Odin Sumner Downs of Whately, MA. And her beloved feline companion Sandy. She will be missed by family and friends but enjoyed a great life while here.
