Weather permitting, beginning Monday, Sept. 23, MoDOT and its contractor, Blevins Asphalt Construction Company of Mount Vernon, will begin work to seal approximately 17 miles of Hwy 79 from the Pike County line five miles south of Annada to Hwy 47 near Winfield. The project will consist of placing a thin coat of oil and chips on the roadway to seal and protect the pavement and extend the pavement life.
The contractor will work Monday through Saturday as needed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zone with flaggers and a pilot car controlling traffic. Please allow ample driving time to your destination, minor delays should be expected; motorists are urged to use alternate routes during these times. Construction equipment will be entering and exiting the work zone, and drivers are asked to use extra caution driving through the work zone area. Message boards and signs will be in place to alert motorist’s fresh oil and loose rock chips may be present along the road. All lanes will be open to traffic at the end of each day. The project is expected to be completeby the end of the week.
All roadwork is posted on the traveler information map. Those traveling and the commuting public are encouraged to check the online map a daily for new work zones.
