The call came through at approximately 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28.

“Elsberry Fire and Lincoln County Ambulance! Please report to an accident on Deer Run Road.”

Major damage was done to the driver side of this Grand Cherokee after a miscalculation forced the vehicle to roll backwards into a tree.

Upon arriving on the scene Fire Chief Kevin Hailey found Bonnie Amery, 71, laying on the pavement in the middle of the road covered with a grey blanket. According to witnesses on the scene, Amery attempted to put her grey Grand Cherokee Jeep into park while stepping out to check the mail. Mistaking reverse for park the vehicle began rolling backwards and rolled into a barbed wire fence and tree, pushing the driver side door backwards.

Although Amery suffered no serious injuries she was transported by Lincoln County EMS to the hospital after she reported having minor pains in her legs and hip.
