After all of the snowfall that Elsberry and the surrounding areas received this winter, many local residents are understandably worried about the likelihood of spring flooding.
That concern, however, might turn out to be misplaced.
“I know the perception is that it was a very cold winter and it was that, but there’s also the perception that we had a lot of snow,” said Mark Fuchs, a service hydrologist with the National Weather Service. “While we did have an above average amount of snow, our total precipitation for this winter in Elsberry and around Lincoln County was below average and below what we usually see.”
