Where does the time go??? It seems as though we were just commenting on the hot weather, kids were swimming the summer away, and school had started for another year.

Walk or drive on the streets of Elsberry and there are numerous signs that the Holiday Season is upon us. One of the first signs is the sudden appearance of the Holiday Light Decorations on street lamps. This year local businessman Kelly Skaggs and his crew were in charge of putting up the annual decorations.

Recently we celebrated Thanksgiving, which usually signifies the beginning of the season. The annual Old Fashion Christmas was held in the city park, residents and businesses have been decked out in Christmas decor, the Salvation Army bell ringing campaign has begun on weekends at Elsberry IGA, and finally, Elsberry Churches have had their Hanging of the Greens events.

During the weeks leading up to the highly anticipated holiday there are lots of events that will be happening. This past Saturday the Elsberry PTO held their annual Craft Fair, along with the famous Cookie Walk. This year’s proceeds from the Cookie Walk were donated to Tiffani Rockwell-Fomera who is battling brain cancer. Senate Theater will be having free Christmas Movies on Saturdays for all to enjoy. Santa Claus and his entourage will be traveling the streets of Elsberry on Dec. 22 and local business will be holding their holiday open house events on Dec. 15.

Last but most importantly not least is the celebrations at area churches. Area churches will be having services that highlight the Christmas season.

Star Hope Baptist Church will be hosting their annual Christmas Cantata on Sunday Evening Dec. 23 for the community to enjoy.

Christians around the World will celebrate Advent, the time leading to the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. Those of Jewish faith will observe Hanukkah in the month of December. Make sure to get out and enjoy Christmas 2018 wherever it might be.
