It was quiet the show on Monday, Nov. 4, as the Elsberry Indians took a 3-2 victory over the Winfield Warriors in game one of District play.
“Although we were trailing 1-0 at the end of the first half, I believe we dominated the entire game,” explained Head Coach Dustin Robinson. “Beginning the second half, we would have chance after chance before finally putting one in the back of the net. But we got it in none the less.”
Ben Rhoades would score the teams first goal after being set up by Seferino Gonzalez. Shortly after, Dalton Barber would score the go ahead goal assisted by Ben Rhoades. Alex Henke would add a penalty kick to put the Indians up 3-1. Winfield would then score on a penalty kick with about six minutes to go in the game.
“Grant Black made a few great saves to give us a big lift and I am proud of the way we handled the game,” said Robinson. “When trailing, it is easy to begin to press and get away from what we are trying to do. We continued to work together and found the back of the net.”
Next up is game two against Lutheran St. Charles.
