Consistency in sports goes together like peanut butter and jelly and for the Elsberry Indians one thing that has been consistent…winning at home.
The Indians captured their 23rd straight home victory with a 67-42 drubbing of Winfield last Friday night. Their last home loss came almost three seasons ago against Orchard Farm.
The game plan against Winfield was simple, limit the scoring from their number one guy, David Bauer.
Bauer who is averaging mid 20’s on the season had only five points in the first half and 14 points overall.
“One of our goals was to limit their best player in [David] Bauer and Rodney [Chatman] did an excellent job shutting him down,” said Head Coach Ryan Parker. “The defense that Rodney played on Bauer was unbelievable.”
Overall Parker was pleased with the play from his squad.
Early on it was the Rahiem Porter show with 13 of his 17 points coming in the first half.
“Rahiem shot the ball extremely well in the first half and gave us a spark with Kenny [Lesley] having two fouls early,” said Parker.
In the second half it was 12 points from Chatman and 15 points from Lesley that helped the Indians pull away from Winfield.
Elsberry also got contributions from Dylan Howard (5 points) and two points each from Caleb Vitro and Tyler Turnbull.
