Flyers play the waiting game for a chance at WBCBL National Tournament

The Midwest Flyers finished off the regular season with a dominate 115-35 victory over the Music City Icons on Saturday night.

The win gave the Flyers a 8-2 record and now they wait to see if it was good enough to make the WBCBL National Tournament.

It was one of the most complete team performances from the Flyers all season. Offensively and defensively the Flyers couldn’t be stopped.

This time last season, the Flyers were preparing for the Regional Tournament where the winner gets an automatic bid to the National Tournament.

That Regional Tournament was scheduled to happen in Elsberry, but with the Kansas City Majestic dropping out of the league midway through the season, the tournament was cancelled.

WBCBL rules state that to have a Regional Tournament there needs to be at least four teams in that region. With the loss of the Majestic that mean there were only three teams, Flyers, Iowa Force and St. Louis Surge.

With the tournament cancelled it would mean that the team with the best record would receive the automatic bid. That team would be the St. Louis

Surge who went undefeated within the region.

So what does that mean for the Flyers? Hope for the wild card spot.

The National Tournament takes the seven regional winners, whether from a tournament victory or standings within the region. Then the league selects one wild card team.

The announcement will be made on July 25. If the Flyers are chosen the National Tournament will take place at Fontbonne University in St. Louis.

The Elsberry Democrat will be live broadcasting all of the Flyers games at www.elsberrydemocrat.com.
