Elsberry students started back to classes on Monday, Aug. 20 and to celebrate the end of the first week of school and all the work that parents, teachers and faculty has done to prepare for the beginning of a new school year, the Elsberry First Baptist Church threw a party.

The church’s event was called the “Back to School BLAST” and was held on the soccer field and track in front of Elsberry High School.

The church had rented a 40 foot obstacle course, an 18 foot dry slide and a jumbo sized bounce house for children to enjoy at no expense to them or their parents.

Volunteers from the church also provided, free of charge, snow cones, cotton candy and popcorn to children and adults alike.

First Baptist also hired artist Keli Schaefer for the evening to do face painting for children at the event. While at the event, families could sign their children up for TeamKID, an after school program on Tuesdays throughout the school year for kindergarten through fourth graders.

The church also provided information about their Moms Group which meets the second and fourth Tuesday mornings of each month when school is in session.

Also on hand for the event was local business The Pickle Barrel selling drinks and sandwiches.
