The Elsberry R-II 21st CCLC Explorer’s Club program not only keeps its students busy learning after school, but it keeps its teachers busy learning as well. November has been a busy month of trainings for Explorer’s Club staff.
First Aid and CPR training was held on Saturday, Nov. 2. There were 10 Explorer’s Club staff members who became certified or recertified on this date. The day included hands on activities to practice what to do in case of an emergency.
Teachers learned the proper techniques for administering first aid to children and adults. Teachers also learned infant and adult CPR techniques. This allows a CPR certified staff member to be present at all times during the Explorer’s Club afterschool program.
On the weekend of November 9-10 Explorer’s Club sent four staff members to the Missouri School Age Community Coalition (MOSAC2) Professional Development Institute in Columbia. Fran Johnson, Danielle Murray, Patty Gibbs, after school teachers and Jocelyn Kreuger, Explorer’s Club site coordinator, all attended the conference.
Teachers attended a variety of sessions including: Games that Educate and Motivate, Arts vs. Crafts, Hands on STEM- Soaring Toilet Papers and Giant Clouds, Autism in Afterschool, Chicken and Noodle Gross Motor Activities, Literacy Resources, It’s All in the Box and Fun on the Run. The MOSAC2 conference consists of afterschool programs from around the state.
“This conference is a great networking opportunity for Explorer’s Club staff as well as a resource for afterschool ideas,” said Kreuger.
