What a night for baseball. The underdog taking on and defeating the mighty giant. The Elsberry Post 226 AA team traveled to Pacific and defeated the league leading mighty giant Pacific team 5-4 in nine innings.

“This was a great played baseball game by both teams,” said Coach Tim Mound.

For the first three innings neither team gave up a hit. In the fourth inning Elsberry’s offense started finding holes in Pacific’s defense and was able to score the first run of the game.

Then in the fifth Elsberry was able to keep the hitting going scoring two more runs to take a 3-0 lead, but in the bottom of the fifth Pacific scored four runs on three base on balls and two hits to take the lead.

Elsberry not giving up, plated a run in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Then in the ninth inning Elsberry scored again to take the lead. Elsberry was able to hold on in the bottom half of the ninth inning to win the game.

Alex Beauchamp (Troy) started the game for Elsberry and pitched five solid innings giving up just two hits. He struggled with command and walked the bases loaded in the sixth inning. Joseph Allen (Winfield) came on in relief in the sixth giving up two hits to allow four runs to score. Allen then settled in and pitched an almost perfect seventh, eighth, and ninth inning getting the victory for Elsberry.

Elsberry improved their record on the season to 15 wins, 8 losses, with 1 tie.

Elsberry Post 226 AA team played a tough game against St Peters Post 313 on July 2 at Elsberry and lost 4-3.

“We got down early in the game and just couldn’t fight back coming up short on the scoreboard,” said Mound.

Jeremy Jennewein (Eolia) started the game pitching for Elsberry. He pitched five innings giving up four runs on seven hits.

Luke Robbins (Clarksville) came on in relief and pitched the sixth and seventh innings for Elsberry.

The offense for Elsberry had trouble all night against St. Peters pitching.
