With the number one seed at Districts locked up the Elsberry Lady Indians headed to Montgomery County on Saturday to take part in the first annual EMO Conference Softball Tournament. After the dust cleared Elsberry captured a second place finish propelling them into the playoffs this week.

“The weekend was very successful overall. The girls played up to their ability and beat one of the best teams in the state. Hopefully, this will all carry over into districts,” said Head Coach Trudy Bull.

Members of the EMO Conference in the tournament included Silex, Clopton, North Callaway, Community R-6, Bowling Green, Van-Far and Elsberry.

The number four seeded Lady Indians started the tournament off against the number five seeded Clopton Lady Hawks.

This early morning battle ended in 10 innings with a come-from-behind 9-8 victory for Elsberry.

“We came out a little slow, but the girls fought hard to come from behind three times and win in 10 innings,” said Coach Bull.

Becca Almus took the mound for Elsberry throwing a complete game giving up six hits striking out 11. Almus was also 4-4 at the plate.

Brittni Hagemeier (3-5), Madison Cleveland (3-5) and Kaity Grills (4-5) pitched in on offense to secure the extra inning victory.

Up next for the Lady Indians was the undefeated and number one seed Silex Lady Owls. Elsberry had already lost to Silex earlier in the season and Coach Bull was hoping from a little revenge and to give them their first loss.

“The Silex game was awesome,” said Coach Bull. “We went into it wanting to give them their first loss and we succeeded.”
