As the Elsberry Indians Soccer team pulled off a 10-0 win against Montgomery County on Tuesday, Sept. 4, Head Coach Dustin Robinson said it wasn’t enough to prepare them for Canton on Thursday, Sept. 6, where they suffered a 3-1 loss.
“We had our chances against Canton but could not put the ball in the back of the net,” Robinson said. “This was a tough loss for us. We dominated the first 25 minutes of the second half but Canton scored to put them up 2-1 with 12 minutes left in the game. They scored again later on and sealed their victory over us.”
However, Robinson said Simon Domingo seemed to be on fire against Montgomery County as he had a hat trick and an assist. Ben Rhoades was another key player as he had two goals and three assists. Alex Henke added two more goals, while Mason Cameron, Brennen Slaughter and Grant Black all scored one goal.
“Domingo had a great game with three goals but so did several others,” Robinson said. “When we play together we can be a really great team. An example of that is against Montgomery County we were only up 2-0 at the half. The second half we played as a team and put up eight more points.”
Although Robinson said it was Canton’s speed up front that gave them trouble in the game. However, they are working on some different ways to defend and hopefully it will prove to be a success going forward.
