On Monday, March 11, the Elsberry Fire Protection District responded to a report of a barn fire at 1345 Hwy. CC, just north of Elsberry.

When first arriving, units found a large open air ban completely involved in fire. Crew immediately initiated an exterior attack of the fire and protected adjacent grain and feed bins from the heat. The fire spread quickly throughout the structure due to the heavy fire load contained inside.

The barn and its contents were totally destroyed by the fire, which included a skid steer loader, two tractors, one pickup truck, one auger wagon, one trencher and approximately 125 round hay bales. The origin of the fire could not be determined due to the severe damage to everything inside.

The Elsberry Fire Protection District was assisted by the Northwest Fire Protection District and The Eolia Fire Department. The barn is owned by Rocky Lammert of Silex.
