For the first time in Elsberry FFA history, there are now two area five officers. Shown above are Sam Marre and Sheyanna Curtis.

For the first time in the history of the Elsberry FFA Chapter, they have two Area Five Officers, Samantha Marre, Area Five Vice President and Sheyana Curtis, Area V Treasurer.

The Area Officer Team consists of nine young ladies: Julie Hale, President; Samantha Marre, Vice President; Baylie Carroll, 2nd Vice President; Brandelyn Martin, Secretary; Sheyana Curtis, Treasurer; Cassidy Ward, Reporter; Ashlee Waddell, Sentinel; Sara VanAusdal, Parliamentarian and Amy Behring, Chaplain.

The two Area Advisors are Mrs. French of Audrain County R-VI School District and Mr. O’Brien of the Silex R-I School District. The Area V Officer Team has a variety of commitments, which include: attending Area Officer Institute, helping a day at the Missouri State Fair, hosting the Area V Leadership Conference and Area Five Barn warming, as well as attending various other barn warming’s hosted by chapters in the area.

At the Missouri State Fair, the Area Officer team gathers in Sedalia, Missouri to help in the Agriculture Education building assisting with various FFA projects that FFA members around the state have submitted. With the Area V Leadership Conference, held in Bowling Green, the officers spend months ahead of time preparing leadership games and sessions to teach FFA members the importance of standing up, stepping out and being the best leaders they can be.

Each year, the team tries to set its theme of the leadership conferences to be incorporated with the National FFA Convention being withheld that year. This year, the theme to both the Area Five Leadership Conference and the National FFA Convention is “Ignite”.

“We hope to “ignite” the idea of leadership into the minds of all Area Five FFA members,” states Curtis. “Of these important events, one of our most successful and well-known functions of the year is the Area Five Barnwarming.”

Area barnwarming, as well as many chapter barn warming’s is a chance for FFA members all over the area to meet new people, while dancing to some of their favorite songs, playing a huge variety of leadership games and participating in the Area Five Barnwarming king and queen contest.

“This year as we keep the whole idea of being a “team” in mind, we plan to work together in accomplishing some of the new ideas we developed together at Area Officer Institute in Osage Beach,” stated Curtis. “During Area Officer Institute, the Area Five Officer team worked with the Missouri State Officer team to help us grow closer together and come up with goals we wanted to set to help all of the chapters in our area.”

This year, the team would like to come up with a newsletter, to send out to each of the schools in their area, to inform all area members about new things and the accomplishments that area schools have succeeded in.

“We would also like to send at least one of our team members to attend each of the chapters in our area for chapter visits and leadership development,” stated Curtis. “As the Area V Officer team works toward a wonderful year, we hope to have a year full of fun and success.”
