Recently across the country, the National Letter Carrier Food Drive was held in the surrounding areas.

Elsberry Postmaster, Kimberly McGuire, reports that it was a huge success.  The Elsberry, Annada and Foley postal carriers collected 828 pounds of food from generous donations left at mailboxes or brought to the post offices.

“That is 228 pounds over last year!” said McGuire.

All items collected were then delivered to local food pantries in both Elsberry and Foley.  The National Junior Honor Society members from Elsberry Middle School joined in the effort by helping to unload the collected goods.

Nationwide the NALC Food Drive is held in cooperation with the Postal Service resulting in millions of pounds of non-perishable food collected and distributed to deserving charities.

In reference to the success, McGuire said, “Our local community came together once again to help make this important event successful.  This clearly shows the generosity of our community and people who make a difference in other people’s lives.”
