The Elsberry R-II Class of 1980 held its 35-year reunion on July 25 in the fellowship hall of the Elsberry Sacred Heart Church.
That class saw 56 students receive their diplomas on May 15, 1980, and 23 of those graduates attended the reunion along with their invited guests.
For some of those individuals, attending the event involved putting more than a few miles on the odometer.
April Hammond Caldwell came from Oregon to take part in the reunion.
In addition, James Taylor traveled from Texas to be a part of the festivities.
Chad Howard of Mississippi and Lisa Boedeker Hamilton of Iowa helped round out this group of dedicated travelers.
Others in attendance included Mike Shaffer, D.D. (Wipke) Tevis, Andrea (Chamberlain) Davis, Kathi (Pezold) Lagemann, Carolyn (Wallace) Gregory, Barb (Herzberg) Sharpe, Jackie (Shrum) Busher, Judy (Keim) Markwardt, Brenda (Riffle) Ross, Thelma (Dameron) Boedeker, John Boedeker, David Leckbee, Lesa (Whiteside) Cohea, Renee (Marre) Mitchell, Dagny (Trescott) Chaney, Don O’Brien, Ronda (Ross) Heil, Mark Talbot and Pat Stonebraker.
Memorabilia items such as letter jackets, pep club uniforms, caps and gowns, yearbooks and previous reunion photos were shared by all, along with much food and many games.
In addition, there was a memorial table on display honoring the five classmates who have passed away.
These include Chad Slaughter, Mike Bury, Sandra Taylor, Tammy (DeGeare) Boedeker and Danny Burgess.
There was also a table full of retro candy that brought back memories of the Candy TeePee, which was once a mainstay in the parking lot of the elementary school in Elsberry.
Everyone was invited to take home a bag of candy to enjoy.
