The Board of Aldermen of the City of Elsberry met on Feb. 25 to discuss the possibility of assuming responsibility for the city’s license office.
“Normally the state will put that contract out for bid twice before closing down the office,” said Alderman Steve Wilch. “In this case they actually put it up for bid three times and still nobody submitted one.”
The deadline for those bids was Feb. 28 and the thought of Elsberry not having a license office in town was troubling to city officials.
“We felt that we needed to keep that office open,” said Wilch. “Not only is it convenient, but when people come into the city to do business there they also have the opportunity to spend money at IGA or any of the other stores. A dollar is a dollar and we can’t afford to lose any more city revenue.”
