Casey’s General Store in Elsberry locks up former manager to help raise money for MDA

As the sun popped up on Friday, Aug. 24 it seemed as many anticipated the “Lock Up” of former Casey’s Store Manager Diane Catalano. It wasn’t her day in court but her day to help raise money for the MDA, along with Katie Arter, Casey’s employee and lead singer for local band Last Dirt Road.

Each year Casey’s General Store attempts to send two children to camp by raising funds through way of “Bail,” yes, bail. As folks come into donate, puts the prisoners one-step closer to freedom.

Regina Gunn, assistant manager for Casey’s General Store in Elsberry, and Lisa Schaffer, store manager said although the did not reach their $800 goal, they still did better than last year, as they raised $635.

“We’re still short approximately $100 short from being able to send one more kid to camp,” Schaffer said. “But with five days still left to do it, I think we should do fine, just need to push it a little harder at the counter. Keep trying and asking is about all we can do and hope folks donate.”

Gunn, who planned this year’s event, said Catalano used to call her, her little party planner because she really enjoys putting on these kinds of events.

“We’re always trying to come up with something new,” Gunn said. “This year we were dancing in and out of the store trying to keep the energy going. Plus being able to see everyone’s reaction to Catalano and her reaction to a lot of people was just great. She was in really good spirits that day.”
