In Scottish Rite Masonry, an honorary degree known as the 33rd Degree is given to members who have provided outstanding service to Freemasonry or to their communities.
This is an honor that cannot be campaigned for and is granted solely by the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite.
It is bestowed on Master Masons who have exhibited knowledge, passion and sacrifice to their respective crafts and is a way of honoring outstanding and selfless work performed within the Scottish Rite or in various aspects of public life.
Elsberry residents Don Bowers and Dennis Hammack are currently serving on the 33rd Degree Team for the state of Missouri.
