Appalled! Business owner asks why?

Dear Editor,

I have just come home from the Elsberry City Hall meeting and I am appalled! I was speaking on Non Conforming of Land and Structures, this concerning the Mobile Home Park on Olive St., I was told by the Mayor at three minutes that my time was up. I was in the process of asking him if I could finish one more paragraph and I was approached from behind where a voice said to me, “Ma’am, you need to sit down!” What??? It scared the daylights out of me! I turned around somewhat in defense because I couldn’t understand why this voice was right next to my ear? It was one of the Elsberry Police telling me to sit down. What nerve! Who does he think he is? He has no right what so ever to do that to anybody in a public meeting!

Everyone in the meeting was in shock! It felt like the Gestapo at my back; very scary situation.

After the meeting the Mayor told me, “Sorry about that,” the Police Chief told me the officer shouldn’t have done that, “I’ll talk to him.” Really! Was this officer told before the meeting to shut me up or did he do it on his own? Who are his supervisors? Should they not have told him to Sit Down! Should he not have been told at that time the Board should take a vote on letting me finish? Is it not in the Mayor’s power to stop this? Did the Mayor order this done? What is going on? What kind of Mayor is running the City of Elsberry? I think this situation needs to be publicly addressed! Our freedom of speech is diminishing, watch!
