New Elsberry Long Jump Record

Blair sets new school record in the long jump

On April 8 Elsberry Middle School student Trevin Blair set a new school record in the long jump competition with a distance of 17’. The record was set at Monroe City where Blair and his fellow middle school track and field athletes had traveled to compete against 14 other schools.   • Indians struggle at Palmyra but fire on all cylinders against the Bulldogs

    Elsberry Indian Jon Almus reached base three out of four times against Louisiana on April 13. Almus had two stolen bases, crossed the plate in the fourth inning and was the winning pitcher in the contest as well.

  • Bowling Green and St. Dominic prove fertile ground for EHS track and field teams

    Elsberry senior Jacob Braden competed in the high jump, long jump and triple jump events during meets at Bowling Green and St. Dominic last week.

    Elsberry’s varsity track and field teams competed in their first non-practice meet of the season at Bowling Green on April 7. Both teams saw success in a variety of events.   • Brown accepts offer to play for Culver-Stockton

    Elsberry senior Olivia Brown has received a scholarship to continue her basketball career with the Culver Stockton Lady Wildcats in Canton. Brown played three seasons with the Elsberry Lady Indians and also played softball and golf. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America.     Elsberry student Hannah Barber finished first in the pole vault competition at the practice meet held at Orchard Farm on March 31.

    Elsberry’s varsity track and field teams saw their first action of the season at Orchard Farm on March 31 and took several first place medals in a variety of competitions.     Elsberry’s Gavin Wommack got off to a rough start against Winfield and Community R-6 on April 2, but rallied to finish with the team’s second best score.

    Elsberry’s varsity golf team squared off against Community R-6 and Winfield at home on April 2 despite weather conditions that threatened to send everyone home early.     The Elsberry Indians literally took one step forward and two steps back last week during a three-game stretch against baseball teams from Pleasant Hill, Wright City and Bowling Green.   • Lady Owls/Lady Indians come from behind to beat Canton

    The Lady Owls/Lady Indians recorded a 5-1 win over Canton at home on March 30. Pictured are Elly Boothe [#11], Angel Henke [#7] and Tanner Bencomo [#4]. Bencomo scored a goal in the first half off of a pass from Maria Gissenass to tie the game 1-1 prior to the half.

    The Lady Owls/Lady Indians obtained a measure of revenge against Canton on March 30 when they defeated them 5-1 on Elsberry’s home soccer field. “We played them twice last year,” said Head Coach Hector Bencomo. “The first time we lost to them by a score of 3-1.
