Legion Baseball in Elsberry has been going at a break-neck pace since late May despite the rain and the otherwise inconsistent weather patterns. This week Elsberry’s AAA team was set to start off the action at home on June 11 with a 6:30 p.m. game against Sullivan. That game was rescheduled for June 12 due to field conditions but weather forced the cancellation of all games set for that date

  • Dream Killers place first

    The Dream Killers took 1st Place at Gus Macker (3 on 3 basketballtournament) in Quincy, Illinois on Memorial Day weekend. The girls competed on the 16-17 year court, and they play the St. Louis Hype. This is the third year the Dream Killers have won this 3 on 3 tournament.     Following a successful year for Elsberry’s varsity baseball team in which they became back-to-back District 5 champions, all eyes now turn to the American Legion Baseball Season.   • Miller and Cleveland place ninth at State Track and Field competition

    Elsberry’s Ethan Miller and Madison Cleveland competed in the State Track Meet in Jefferson City this weekend. Miller participated in the open 400 event while Cleveland represented Elsberry in the discus throw. This was Miller’s second trip to state, having competed in the 4×400 competition last year.     The Elsberry Indians varsity baseball team ended their season in an interesting fashion this year. After ending the regular season with a double-header at home against Warrenton the Indians received a bye in the first round of the District Tournament, which Elsberry hosted for the second consecutive time.     Elsberry sophomore Gavin Hill represented his school and community May 19-20 at the State Golf Meet held at River Cut Golf Course in Springfield. “It was like playing in a tournament for the Junior PGA,” said Hill. “It’s a totally different situation. You’re playing against kids that share your skill level and have the ability to hit the ball well and put up low scores.” Hill finished in 20th place.

    Members of the Elsberry R-II Track and Field Teams competed in the Sectional Meet at Principia High School on May 17. For the girls, Madison Cleveland placed third in the discus competition with a throw of 96-10, Naomi Gladney finished seventh in the 1600-meter run with a final time of 6:07.34 and Passion Hunter-Edwards placed seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.92.
