Last summer six members of Elsberry’s high school cheerleading squad performed so well before camp judges that they each qualified to cheer as members of the Capital One Bowl All American Cast during the Capital One Bowl halftime performance in Orlando on Jan. 1.     The Elsberry Lady Indians finished off last week with an away game against the Louisiana Lady Bulldogs on Jan. 23. Elsberry defeated Louisiana earlier in the season during the consolation round of the Clopton Tournament and Head Coach Hector Bencomo said prior to the Jan. 23 game that he was concerned the Lady Bulldogs would be hungry for revenge.     Senior Terrez Blair hangs in the air for a under-handed scoop layup against Versailles on Sunday at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia. Blair finished the game with a double-double scoring 13 points and collecting 11 rebounds.

    Elsberry’s varsity boys basketball team may be in the midst of a rebuilding year but they have made their presence felt lately against what Head Coach Chad Twellman has described as some very tough teams.     On Jan. 10 Elsberry’s Cheerleading Squad was presented with the 2015 Clopton High School Annual Boys & Girls Basketball Tournament Cheerleading Award. Players receiving honors included Alex Black, First Team All EMO Offensive and Defensive Lineman, Collin Dugan, Second Team All-Conference Flanker and Second Team Defensive Back, Vince Hollocher, Second Team Offensive Line and Jeremy Jennewein, Second Team Wide Receiver.

  • Lady Indians on three-game winning streak

    The Elsberry Indians captured the Consolation Trophy at the Clopton Tournament last week.     Following their loss to Monroe City in the first round of the 2015 Clopton Tournament on Jan. 5, Elsberry Lady Indians Head Coach Hector Bencomo said that if his team didn’t get back on track and at least win consolation it would haunt them for eternity.
