Hill competes in Junior Gateway PGA

Elsberry’s Gavin Hill participated in the Junior Gateway PGA Event on July 14 at Glen Echo County Club in St. Louis. This is Hill’s second year to participate in the Junior Gateway PGA. This year he moved up to the 16-19 year old division. Glen Echo Country Club is the oldest 18-hole golf course west of the Mississippi and was designed by 1896 US Open Champ Jim Foulis. Hill shot

    The women’s team representing Maryville University in St. Louis received third place medals in the competitive division of the Show-Me State Games in Columbia at the end of July.   • Post #226 victorious in both American Legion All-Star Games

    On July 26 the Elsberry American Legion Post #226 sent 17 of its best players to New Haven to compete in the A and AA All-Star Games. Jeff Keiser’s A team sent John Hogan, Blake Kendall and Steve Boedeker.     For the Elsberry R-II High School Cheerleading Squad the 2014-2015 season has started off with two very important firsts. To begin with, this summer was the only one in which the school’s cheerleaders were able to afford to attend a camp. That has never happened before in the entire history of the program.   • Cross Country practice dates

    Cross-Country

    Cross Country practice for the Elsberry High School students will start Monday, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. at Sun Valley Golf Course. Middle School practice will start on Thursday, Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. at Sun Valley Golf Course. Once school begins practice will be held after schools at Sun Valley. All students are required to bring a current physical to practice.

    The scene was set Thursday night, “win and your in”. That was what the Elsberry Chics softball team, coached by Carolyn Lovelace and Don Mooney, faced against Moscow Mills. Win is what they did with a score of 8-6 and they secured their spot in the playoffs. The Chics finished the season 9-3 and faced Troy on Tuesday night in Elsberry.     Legion Baseball in Elsberry is officially over for the summer. The only action remaining is that of the A and AA All Star Games which will be played at New Haven on July 26. The Elsberry A teams, coached by Jeff Keiser and Jason Howard, ended their season  on July 12 at the district tournament.
