Legion Auxiliary honor Veterans

The Elsberry Unit 226 Auxiliary members served approximately 80 Veterans and their family members on Saturday, Nov. 8 with a lunch at the American Legion Post.  Legion Rider Mike Talbot also helped with the event. The Auxiliary was extremely honored to have three World War II Veterans in attendance: Edward Hausgen, Ray Dotson and Glen Hammer. The Various Branches of the Armed Forces were recognized with their Branch Theme Song.

  • Old Glory Jubilee committee to host first fundraiser

    The committee to bring back the Elsberry Old Glory Jubilee will be holding it’s first fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 23.   • Blood Drive to be held at Elsberry R-II School District

    The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center will be conducting a blood drive on Nov. 17 in the Elsberry R-II Elementary School Gymnasium from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. New donors and walk-ins are welcome and all donors will receive a free t-shirt. Donors are encouraged to eat and to hydrate well before arriving.

  • “Scouting For Food”

    On Nov. 8 members of Scout Troop 399 met in the Elsberry United Methodist Church parking lot to begin distributing “Scouting For Food” bags throughout the Elsberry community. The bags were at the doors of local residents in the hope that when the scouts return on Nov. 15 to collect them they will find them filled with food donations to the local pantry.   • Local children celebrate Halloween at Methodist Church

    On Oct. 31 children in the Elsberry community gathered in costume at the Elsberry United Methodist Church for the annual Halloween Dinner/Costume Contest. The event was a fun and safe way for children of all ages to celebrate Halloween with family and friends prior to going trick-or-treating throughout the various neighborhoods in Elsberry. “I look forward to doing it again next year,” said Pastor Paul Garvin.

  • “Old Glory Jubilee” Committee prepares for quarter auction

    Old Glory Jubilee Committee

    On Nov. 3 members of the “Old Glory Jubilee” Committee met at the Elsberry City Hall to finalize plans for the upcoming quarter auction that is scheduled for Nov. 23. The auction is expected to be the committee’s biggest fundraiser of the year in preparation for the return of the “Old Glory Jubilee” celebration on July 4, 2015.
