It’s a case of déjà vu, as members of the Elsberry Indians Cross Country team will be heading to State on Saturday, Nov. 9, in Jefferson City.
Following their District meet in Bowling Green, on Friday, Nov. 1, Naomi Gladney, who came in second place overall with a time of 22:16; Maggie Spratt, who came in eighth place with a time of 24:08 and Allie Smith, who came in 14th place with a time of 24:57 all qualified individually for State competition. Anne Marie Bufford came in 18th place, Mandy Horne came in 20th place and Anne Heintzelman came in 28th place. As a tem the entire girls team will be participating in State.
For the boy’s, Jack Weakly came in eighth place, which qualified him for both individual qualification and All-District, which according to Head Coach Ezra Tillotson, is a remarkable feat for any freshman to pull off. Unfortunately, Austin King did not qualify, but may still attend State to help work with and support the team.
“I expect us to do well,” said Tillotson. “This will be our 18th appearance at State since 1996 and we have never fell under seventh place. I am extremely proud of all these kids and the hard work they have put in and am very excited about the future of our program.”
