For the third year in a row Elsberry School nurse, Jolene Hatcher, LPN, partnered together with the MO Healthy Smiles and put on an Oral Health Preventative Services Program at Elsberry School for grades Pre-K to eighth grade on Thursday, Oct. 17.
The program consists of an annual oral screening (to check for tooth decay), interactive dental education on proper brushing and flossing, a fluoride varnish application twice each year (to help prevent tooth decay), a referral to a dentist for those children needing dental care and a free toothbrush and toothpaste for all children participating. The program is dependent upon community support and requires volunteers from our community to help with this program.
Volunteers for this program included Britni Pietzman, RDH, Rebecca Balfanz, Jackie Taylor, Amy Lowe, Renee Jennewein, Lori Kurfman, Jodi Johnson, Tobi Lograsso, Cassie Elie, Jan Prosser, RDH, Jan Lyttle, RDH, Jo-Ann Creech, Carol Berger, Annette Mills, Dr. Greg Casalone, Dr. Michael Brown, Kathy Baldwin, RDH, Gina Tapley, Sharon Hager, Annie Chamber and Carols Credintials. The participation of these volunteers is an investment in the health of our children.
There were approximately 300 students from Elsberry that were seen during this program on Thursday.
