Net state general revenue collections increased 2.7 percent during the first three months of the 2014 fiscal year compared to the same period in FY 2013, going from $1.9 billion last year to $1.95 billion this year. Net general revenue collections were up 8.3 percent in September 2013 compared to September 2012, going from $743.2 million to $804.6 million.
Gov. Jay Nixon on Oct. 1 appointed Bryan Scott of St. Louis to the Missouri State Highways and Transportation Commission, the governing authority of the Missouri Department of Transportation. Scott, a Democrat, is director of quality with the Boeing Co. in St. Louis. Scott will begin serving on the highways commission immediately, but his appointment will be subject to Senate confirmation after the Legislature reconvenes in January.
On Sept. 27, Gov. Jay Nixon appointed long-time aide Daniel Hall of Columbia to the Missouri Public Service Commission, which regulates investor-owned utilities that operate in the state. Since Nixon became governor in January 2009, Hall has served as his legislative director. Hall, a Democrat, previously worked for Nixon in the Attorney General’s Office. Hall will begin serving on the PSC immediately, but his appointment will also be subject to Senate confirmation after the Legislature reconvenes in January.
The Missouri Supreme Court on Oct. 1 dismissed a lawsuit brought by State Auditor Tom Schweich that challenged the scope of Gov. Jay Nixon’s constitutional authority to withholding budget appropriations approved by the General Assembly. In its unanimous ruling, the court said Schweich lacked legal standing to pursue the case.
