Music classes at Elsberry High School are as fast paced as they come, Director Tom Speers does not let the “grass grow” under the kids feet in any of his classes. Mr. Speers holds classes for HS Band, Music Appreciation, Chorus, sixth grade band, seventh grade band, and eighth grade band. Taking a music class in high school gives student’s their fine art credit for high school
On October 3rd the sixth grade band, just a few weeks into their first year of playing, put on a very successful First Start Concert to parents and friends. The marching band has attended three marching competitions so far this year. Most recently, on Saturday, they made their first appearance at the Mizzou Marching Invitational.
When asked about this year’s classes Mr. Speers said, “It should be a great experience for the kids to step foot on a HUGE field and perform, it will be one of those memories they will never forget!” With their show Nevermore they plan to dazzle the judges with the tale of Edgar Allen Poe’s The Raven narrated by former Elsberry teacher Ezra Tillotson. All the bands and choir are on the right track and we are off to another great start. The school year is flying by!”
