Safety remains priority at Elsberry Schools
In similar fashion to the Elementary School, the Elsberry High School entrance is now equipped with a locked entrance and buzz-in system.
With all the success of the buzzer system at Clarence Cannon Elementary, the Elsberry R-II School District decided it would be a good idea to install it at the high school as well.
“It was decided off the response we got at the elementary school, which was very positive and so we put it in place that we would want to get it for all of our entrances because our schools are all interconnected,” explained Elsberry R-II Superintendent Tim Reller, Ed.D.
Dr. Reller went on to explain that the high school had a few obstacles to overcome with the bell schedule and students, as well as teachers, walking from the school to the Ag building.
“We had to look at a different system than what’s in place at our elementary school,” said Dr. Reller. “That’s why it took us a little longer to be able to get something in place, but the safety and security of our students still is our number one concern. We want to make sure our buildings are as secure as possible.”
Although both the elementary school system and the high school system run on the same principle, the high school system operates off of a timer system. This will allow the doors to automatically unlock, for inside access, during class changes.
“This will allow our students to come and go from one building to the next without having to be buzzed in,” said Dr. Reller. “It really just gives us a little more functionality than the one in the elementary school.”
According to Dr. Reller, visitors will need to be buzzed in during class times and sign in with the high school secretary Kim Flanagan. Once they have signed in, they will be given a lanyard and a badge with the school logo and the word visitor stenciled across it.
“The high school entrance and the elementary school entrance are the only two public entrances we use,” said Dr. Reller. “All the other doors are kept locked from outside entry.”
Alarm 24 were contracted to install the system and it took them two days to do so.
