First Baptist Church of Elsberry closes out summer with a ‘Blast’
Blow up rides and music were just a few of the exciting items at the Back to School Blast.
With the start of the school year just around the corner the Elsberry First Baptist Church wanted to do something fun for children and families on the last Saturday of summer break.
The result was a “Back to School Blast” held this past Saturday at First Baptist Church, located off North Fifth Street. Members of the church were in place by 10 a.m. to direct families where to register for drawings throughout the morning, to hand out school supplies that had been donated for kids and to serve hot dogs, chips, soda, snow cones, popcorn, along with supervising the inflatable bounce house, slide and obstacle course that were set up in the parking lot.
“For being a small town, there are quite of few folks in Elsberry that aren’t actively involved in an area church,” said Pastor Sam Byers, one of the two elders at the FBC. “One of our goals at First Baptist is to find ways to bless our community and show them God’s love in practical and tangible ways. We had a beautiful day for the event and for the 45 families from the community that showed up, I hope we were able to do just that.”
In addition to the school supplies, food, and fun that took place, the church also sent home flyers about TeamKidz, an afterschool program for elementary students on Tuesdays until 4:45 p.m. beginning Sept. 17. The church enrolled children for their bus ministry on Sunday mornings as well.
