The Page Branch Park Committee have been extremely busy lately and it doesn’t look like it’s going to slowdown any time soon.
At the Aug. 12 meeting, Jo Ann Cordsiemon stated PBP committee member Brooke Reller announced her resignation for personal reasons. Mayor Terry Martin appointed Don Slaughter to take her place. According to him, he has already done so much for the park, he just seemed like a good fit.
The committee decided to set the date, Sept. 28, for their co-ed softball tournament at the Winfield Ball Park. They also moved forward with the St. Patrick’s 5K run on March 14. Christina Gibbons will chair the event, as well as contacting Big River Race for a cost for management services.
“The playground, flag pole dedication and family picnic will be on Sept. 14,” stated PBP Chairman Aprile Taylor. “We will have hotdogs, chips and drinks for $5, which will be served from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. We will also have an outdoor movie, following a brief dedication service.”
Cordsiemon asked the committee if they would consider a new fundraiser idea called, “Touching a Truck.” For a small admission price, visitors will be allowed to sit behind the wheel, honk the horn or just see how the trucks and equipment operate.
“We’ll have farming equipment, fire trucks, ambulances and all kinds of other neat trucks there,” said Taylor.
The motion carried and the committee set the date for March 15. Cordsiemon will be chairing this event.
Cordsiemon stated she spoke with Elsberry Alderman Steve Wilch, who is working on adapting the disc golf basket so that it can be removed when space is needed. He has located the correct size steel and will be working on the project.
Pat and Harriet Mesker came before the committee and reported that the Bird Sanctuary will be dedicated at 5 p.m. on Aug. 24 in memory of Bob Donnelly, who until his death, worked diligently on the PBP project.
