Peoples Bank & Trust has taken honoring its local scholarship recipients to a whole new level – they are now displayed on a billboard visible from northbound Highway 61 before the Bowling Green exit.

For the last eleven years, Peoples Bank & Trust has given away many scholarships to local students heading to college in the fall.

This year, seven area high school seniors each received a $2000 scholarship, which is renewable for four years. This year’s scholarship winners include: Jeffery Fennewald (Troy), Joseph Fessenden Jr. (Troy), Brent Hammett (Clopton), Shelby Jewell (Warrenton), Kara Schrand (Fort Zumwalt North), Courtney Kadlec (Bowling Green) and Sam McDonald (Silex).

The students are the fifth group to be featured on a billboard. Other student-featured billboards are located along Highway B before entering Elsberry, westbound Highway 47 in Troy between Wal-Mart and Kroger and on the outskirts of Troy right before Bluffview subdivision.

David Thompson, President and CEO of Peoples Bank & Trust said, “Like in the past few years, the scholarship winners went up on the billboard; it is just an additional way of honoring these students. They work really hard to get good grades and are involved in all types of school activities. It is great to be able to showcase the talented young people we have around here and that we as a community are behind them, wanting them to succeed in the future.”
