Three injured in separate accidents
As temperatures rise to summer high’s, so do the number of accidents.
It was quite an eventful week for the Missouri State Highway Patrol as they were called to several accidents throughout the Lincoln County area and Elsberry.
On June 20 Trooper P.C. Long responded to Deer run Road, south of Missouri Route JJ. According to the official crash report Darrell J. Biggerstaff, 48, of Elsberry was traveling southbound on Deer Run Road when an ongoing medical condition caused him to lose control of his 1986 Honda Aero Moped. Biggerstaff traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting him from the vehicle. The Lincoln County Ambulance District, due to moderate injuries, took Biggerstaff to St. Joseph Hospital West. The accident took place at approximately 3 p.m.
Then on June 21 Trooper J.R. Henry was called to an accident on Missouri Highway 79 just south of Missouri Highway 47. According to the official crash reports Brandon Smith, 23, of Elsberry, along with Brittany Darnell, 18, of Elsberry, was traveling southbound on Hwy. 79 when an unknown vehicle pulled in to the path of his 2006 Chrysler Sebring.
Stephen Fortman, 36, of Troy, was traveling northbound on Hwy 79, in a 1997 Kenworth T800, when the incident happened. In an effort to avoid an accident, Smith swerved to the right, striking a mailbox.
