Elsberry comes together to showcase student achievements

Every year Elsberry High School takes a night to showcase their students for their academic hard work and achievements from the year. This event for family and friends of students was held on Tuesday, May 8 in the high school gymnasium.
The evening started with a welcome from Stephen Hill, first year EHS principal and capped off by the presentation of the Outstanding Student at EHS to Senior Krista Dye. After the ceremony students, families, friends and faculty were invited to attend a reception sponsored by Renaissance. Julie Basler, HS Counselor and Sarah Sehie, English Teacher are the sponsors for this organization.
The first awards for the night were individual awards sponsored by various organizations, they were: Jesse Black Award, Outstanding English Student – Braden Spratt; Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership – sophomore, Madison Cleveland; Missouri Leadership Seminar, sophomore, Tanner Bencomo; Sophomore Pilgrimage, Amanda Jo Talbot; P.E.O. Award, highest grade point average for the year, Becca Jansen; Girls’ State, juniors, Anne Heintzelman, Brea Johnson, Kimmie Croxville and Brittni Hagemeier; Boys’ State, junior, Bo Young; DAR Good Citizen, senior, Krista Dye.
Sponsors Karin Busiere and Sarah O’Brien then recognized NHS members. Chris Hency was noted for providing the most community service hours and Braden Spratt was thanked for his reign as President. Teachers then have an opportunity to pick one of their students to receive the Silver Arrow awards, eleven students received this medal, and they were: Jennifer Vogler, Julia Barragan, Tanner Bencomo, Anne Marie Bufford, Nick Daly, Simon Domingo, Brea Johnson, Seth Lyskowski, Sindi Servin-Avila, Emily Wells, and Bo Young.
Teachers also select one student from each class that they feel has been a stand out student and improved immensely over the year, these students were: Jessica Rubel, freshmen; Brandi George, sophomore; Caleb Eisenbath, junior; Emily Eairheart, senior.

Thirteen students received the Award of Excellence for receiving no grade lower than an A- all year. They are front row Savannah Vaughn, Maggie Spratt, Anne Heintzelman, Kimmie Croxville, Kristy Burkemper, Tanner Bencomo and Samantha Marre. Back row Amanda Jo Talbot, Alex Henke, Braden Spratt, Cody Shaw, Tara O’Brien and Becca Jansen.
Renaissance also recognizes the students who were chosen as the student of the month throughout the school year, they were: Cody Shaw, September; Courtney Orf, October; Braden Spratt, November; Krista Dye, December; Tracey Beck, January; Bailey Zimmermann, February; Mercedes Sherrow, March; Charles Fraction, April; and Brandy Hall, May. An award of excellence was given to 13 students who made no grade lower than an A- during the current school year. Those recipients were Tanner Bencomo, Kristy Burkemper, Kimmie Croxville, Anne Heintzelman, Alex Henke, Becca Jansen, Samantha Marre, Tara O’Brien, Cody Shaw, Braden Spratt, Maggie Spratt, Amanda Jo Talbot and Savannah Vaughn. Eighty three students received their academic letter and/or bar for receiving a 3.33 GPA for three consecutive quarters of grades. They then recognized 47 students who were classified as scholar athletes. This has the same requirement of a 3.33 GPA but also the student had to be involved in one athletic activity during the year. Sponsors of FBLA, Academic Team and Speech and Drama also recognized their members and their accomplishments for the year.
