Elsberry Indians take ninth and 12th place at Warrenton Invitational

Jacob Braden took fourth place in Boy's High Jump at the Cunningham Invitational of Saturday, April 20 with a score of 5-06.00. Then on Friday, April 26 he placed 10th, with a final score or 5-04.00 at the Warrenton Invitational on Friday, April 26. According to Head Coach Scott Cleveland, weather has made it a hard season to be consistent in.

The Elsberry Indians Track team met on Friday, April 26 for the Warrenton High School Invitational and according to Head Coach Scott Cleveland, it went exactly as he expected.

“The boy’s did real well and worked hard in the events they were in,” said Cleveland. “Unfortunately Charles Fraction was suffering from shin splints so he was unable to run at his best, which resulted in us having to scratch the 4×400.”

However, Fraction was still able to take second place in the long jump event, but actually walked across the finish line of the open 400 due to the pain.

Ethan Miller ran his rear off, according to Cleveland and earned third place in the open 400.

The 4×200 Relay event included Fraction, Miller, Addric DeRoy and Terrez Blair.

“They did a great job running against the bigger schools but they need to work on their hand-offs to better help their times,” said Cleveland. “The weather and lack of practice has made it hard to be consistent but I’m sure it is affecting all teams, not just ours.

The girls had a fairly good run as well, as Passion Hunter-Edwards took first in the 100 Meter Dash.

“She is a strong runner and always gives us 100 percent,” said Girl’s Head Coach Hector Bencomo. “We all still have a lot of work to do though if we’re going to make state and I’m not entirely convinced we’re ready yet but I know we’ll do our very best.”
