Third time is a charm for Elsberry High School Senior, Charles Fraction. He has been named the recipient of the Black and White Ball Scholarship to Lindenwood University which is in cooperation with St. Louis rapper, Nelly and Plaza Motors. This is the third year in a row that an EHS graduate has been awarded this particular scholarship. Last year Jordan Powell was presented with it, and the year before it went to Carmen Rhodes. Along with a full ride to Lindenwood, recipients also receive a new laptop computer and printer from Plaza Motors. His career goal is to become a graphic designer.
A ceremony was held on April 12, at the Lindenwood House on the Lindenwood Campus. Presenting Fraction and Naa’a Wilson of Jennings High School with the scholarship was Dr. James D. Evans, President of Lindenwood University. Others present at the ceremony were Ambur Pankins, President of the Black Student Union; Dr. Joe Parisi, Dean, Undergraduate Admissions; Jerry Patterson, President of Plaza Motors; and Dr. Amit Dhawan, Managing Partner of Synergy Productions. Rapper Nelly was unable to be at the presentation due to illness. He will be meeting with the recipients later this month.
Those attending the ceremony from Elsberry were Jenny Kroeger, Dorothy Richards, mother; Julie Basler, EHS Counselor; Dustin Scott, Davonte and Mason, brothers; Sarah O’Brien, HS English Teacher; Tim Reller, Elsberry R-2 Superintendent; and Steve Hill, EHS Principal.
