Elsberry Fire Protection District to hold smoke alarm campaign
The Elsberry Fire Protection District will be holding a door-to-door smoke alarm campaign on April 6 and 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the city of Elsberry.
The purpose of the campaign is to ensure working smoke alarms are in every home within the boundaries of the Elsberry Fire Protection District.
Crews will be going door-to-door, installing dectectors as needed, checking existing alarms to ensure they work properly and replacing batteries as needed.
“It is important to remember that working smoke detectors save lives and it is our goal to ensure that every home in our district has working detectors,” stated Caption Eric Graham.
According to the National Fire Protection Association website:
• Almost two-thirds of home fire deaths in 2005-2009 resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.
• When smoke alarms fail to operate, it is usually because batteries are missing, disconnected or dead. Almost one-quarter of the smoke alarm failures were due to dead batteries.
This program is made possible through grants from Fireman’s Fund Insurance Companies and Factory Mutual Global Insurance Company.
If residents are not ale to be home during these times, they may schedule a smoke alarm check/install by calling 573-898-3300 and leaving a message.
This program is open to any resident of the Elsberry Fire Protection District.
