For the second time in less the one year, the Clopton-Elsberry IndianHawks football team has lost its head coach.

Lynn Nutt has tendered a resignation letter to the Clopton R-III School District, according to Clopton High School Principal Larry Lagemann.

Nutt took over last August just before the season began for Adam Falloon, who accepted a last-minute offer to become athletic director at Montgomery City High School.

Nutt said Tuesday, March 5 he was happy coaching the Indian-Hawks and was not looking for another job.

“I got a phone call a couple of weeks ago from my old college coach,” Nutt said. “He offered me a position coaching at William Jewell College,” in the Kansas City area.

Nutt played football for William Jewell Head Coach Jerod Kruse and graduated from the college in 2009. He also has a good friend on the football staff there.

“I explained to the kids it was a hard decision and I didn’t apply for it, but an opportunity like this doesn’t come along very often,” Nutt said. “I’ll coach the defensive line.

“Everyone here has been unbelievable,” Nutt said. “It’s been a great experience.”

Nutt came to the Clopton district in 2011 and was an assistant coach under Falloon. He will leave in May after completing his duties teaching social studies to Clopton Middle School students.

No successor has been named yet, according to Lagemann.

“We’ll start the process and post the position,” Lagemann said. “Everyone focuses on the coaching part of it, but we have a classroom teaching position we have to fill.”

Nutt’s resignation will come before the school board on Monday, March 18.
