It may just be the year of Golf for the Elsberry Indians as the number of those kids interested has increased since last season. According to Head Coach Ryan Parker, there will be 12 members making up the Golf team this season, although they will be shared with track and baseball.
“What this number allows us to do is field a complete team each and every meet,” explained Parker. “We will lean on [All-Conference Golfer] Ethan Pott because he knows what it takes to be successful on the golf course.”
Parker went on to mention Josh Phillips and Jacob Braden as two others who will help lead the team this season. They are also the only other return members from last season. In the past the biggest challenge for the Elsberry Indians Golf Team has been fielding a complete team in each event. However, this year the challenge has been more weather than anything. According to Parker, his team has yet to meet on the course, which has made it extremely difficult to judge what their strengths will be this season.
“Right now all I can say is there is a great deal of enthusiasm amongst the players,” said Parker. “But ask me in a couple weeks and I’ll be able to give a better answer.”
One of the biggest things Parker said he will be teaching this season is the rules of the game and what the expectations on the golf course are. But as for what the season will bring and how strong they will play, “Only time will tell,” said Parker. “That’s the thing about golf, it’s a team sport, but it’s also individual.”
This year’s Elsberry Golf Team consists of: Ethan Pott, Josh Phillips, Anthony Grasso, Jacob Braden, Olivia Brown, Passion Edwards-Hunter, Kris Pearson, Gavin Hill, Joey Vombey, Wayne Holland, Adam Talbot, Gavin Womack, Rodney Chatman and Anthony Muzzy.
