Vehicle overturns after driver falls asleep in Elsberry
An accident on Wednesday, Feb. 13 on Hwy 79, illustrated how important a morning cup of coffee could be.
At approximately 8:30 a.m. Katie Arter, 36 of Annada, was traveling north bound on Hwy 79, when she fell asleep behind the wheel and traveled of the right side of the roadway. Arter then over corrected herself that caused her to begin sliding and eventually overturned off the right side of the road way. First to respond was Elsberry Law enforcement followed by Missouri State Highway Patrol, Lincoln County Ambulance District, Lincoln County Sheriffs Department, Elsberry Fire Protection District and MoDOT, who assisted in directing traffic while the accident was being investigated. Arter was reported to sustain no injuries.
Then on Thursday, Feb. 14 Bailey Zimmermann, 17, of Elsberry, was travelling on Hwy 79, just south of Oliver’s Bluff Road, at approximately 6 p.m. when she veered off the right side of the roadway. After an attempt to correct her positioning, Zimmermann over corrected and veered off the left side of the roadway, resulting in overturning her 2001 Ford Mustang. She was reported to have suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Saint Joseph West Hospital by Lincoln County Ambulance. Missouri State Trooper R.R. Davis of Troop C investigated the accident.
