Funeral Services for Frankie Dan Smith of Elsberry, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Richard Turnbull of Winfield, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Shane Early, Robin Di Enno, Ralph Di Enno, Kenny brown, Glenn Bartlett and Steve Hassell.
Mr. Smith, 70, died Saturday morning, Jan. 19, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, surrounded by devoted family members.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 28, 1942 in Kennett, the youngest of five siblings born to Clarence J. and Ruth Etta (Brown) Smith. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to St. Louis where he attended school, graduating from O’Fallon Technical High School in 1961. He enlisted in the Active Navy reserve in 1959 while still in high school and entered active duty in July of 1961. On August 1, 1961 in St. Louis, he was united in marriage to Betty Sue Brown, formerly of Piedmont. They were the parents of three sons.
After being released from active duty in July of 1963, Mr. Smith found employment at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis, where he was employed until his retirement on July 31, 1997. During his years there he made many friends and bowled on the bowling team there from 1964 until several years after his retirement. Many of those years his team took first place in the league and were first place champions in all McDonnell Douglas leagues several times.
Mr. Smith’s other interests were hunting and fishing, shooting pool, golf and especially car racing. His greatest enjoyment in sports was to load his 23-T Bucket on the trailer, drive to MAR racetrack and drag race all day. He received many trophies and awards of excellence through the years. He also loved motorcycles.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: one as a stillborn and Ronald Alan Smith; two sisters: Shirley Baird and Jean Di Enno; one brother, Harold Smith; and two nephews: Steven Smith and Rick Di Enno.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Smith; one son, Terry Smith; and one grandson, Mark Alan Smith, who was raised in the home of his grandparents. He also leaves two great-granddaughters: Lorelei and Chloe Smith; one brother, Benny Smith and his wife, Rita, of St. Louis; several nieces and nephews along with their families who were very dear to him, and a host of other in-laws and friends. He will be sadly missed.
Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.

Funeral Services for Velma Marshall Sanders of Elsberry, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Elsberry. Rev. John Zellmer, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery.
Mrs. Sanders, 95, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 20, 2013 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Peters. Born March 23, 1917 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of Alton P. and Gertie Parks Davis. She graduated from high school in Paynesville and attended Kirksville State Teachers College for one year. She worked as an elementary school teacher at Star Hope, Hayes and White Swan Schools where she also attended as a child. She was united in marriage on Nov. 30, 1938 in Elsberry to Harry Robert Sanders, Jr. This union was blessed with one daughter, Bobette. Mrs. Sanders was a housewife. She was a 60 year member of P.E.O – Chapter AI, a 65 year member of Troy Chapter of the DAR, various Bridge Clubs around Elsberry and The Garden Club. She was a member and Deacon Emeritus at the First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Gertie Davis; one sister, Alene Waddell; one brother, Vernon Davis; and her beloved husband of 43 years, Harry Robert Sanders, Jr. on Dec. 22, 1981.
Survivors include her daughter, Bobette Shipman and her husband, Joe, of Elsberry; one nephew, Bob Davis and his wife, Donna, of Elsberry; and one niece, Betty Cohoon and her husband, Charles, also of Elsberry. She also leaves other relatives and friends.

Abigail and Quinn Foster
Graveside services for Abigail and Quinn Foster will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 in the Elsberry City Cemetery with J. Larry Carter officiating.
Abigail and Quinn, twin daughters of Clinton Thomas and Samantha Lynn Holmes Foster, were stillborn on Jan. 11, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.
Abigail and Quinn are survived by their parents, Clinton and Sam Foster of Elsberry; and their big sister, Zoie Foster. They also leave paternal grandparents, Dennis and Debbie Foster of Elsberry; maternal grandparents: Tammy and Kenneth Morris of Elsberry, and Thomas Holmes III of Elsberry; paternal great-grandmother, Margaret Lagemann of Elsberry; maternal great-grandparents: Howard and Frankie White of Savannah, TN, Lois and Bill Brumfield of Florida, and Thomas Holmes, Jr. of New London; many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

Albert Lee McClelland
Albert Lee McClelland of Old Monroe died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at the age of 83.
Visitation was Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Valhalla Cemetery in St. Louis.
