Elsberry Lady Indians bring home consolation in Clopton Tourney
After losing game one of the Clopton Tournament, the Elsberry Lady Indians were able to win their next two games and bring home a consolation trophy. They lost game one to the Christian Lady Eagles, 30-49.
The holiday break may have been exactly what the doctor ordered as the Elsberry Lady Indians began their New Year with a consolation trophy after defeating the Winfield Lady Warriors, 55-19 and the Louisiana Lady Bulldogs, 44-32.
Having only lost their first game of the tourney to the Christian Lady Eagles, 30-49, Lady Indians Head Coach Hector Bencomo said he was not pleased with the girls initial performance and didn’t feel as though they deserved to play any of the top teams.
“We started the tournament real flat,” said Bencomo. “Sometimes when your on break it can be tough for the kids to play a game in normal time so when we showed up to play Christian High School, we just showed up.”
According to Bencomo, his girls were missing lay-ups and overall just seemed to regress on the fundamentals. He explained he was partially to blame for not having them ready to play and having them perform at the level he knows they can.
