Michael Lynn Norton
Michael Lynn Norton, 45
Michael Lynn Norton, 45, peacefully climbed his stairway to heaven at his home in Clearwater, FL on Nov. 16, 2012.
Mike was born on Sept. 15, 1967 to the late Orval and June Norton in Troy, Missouri. Formerly of Elsberry, MO, Mike was a graduate of Elsberry High School. He grew up fishing on the banks of the local rivers, and working in the family business. After a diving accident in 2000, which left him paralyzed, Mike relocated to Tavernier, FL. While there, he participated in several cutting edge studies at the Miami Project to cure paralysis. Later he moved to Tampa to be part of a trial project sponsored by the Florida Brain and Spinal Rehabilitation Program. This program made it possible for the physically disabled to become independent and live outside of nursing home facilities.
In spite of his disability, Mike lived every day to the fullest. He would stay busy recording movies or listening to his vast collection of classic rock and roll. He was always smiling. He enjoyed his family, entertaining his friends, and telling stories. He was an inspiration to everyone around him, and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his three children, Michael Moll of Elsberry, MO, Ashley Norton of Tavernier, FL and Zach Norton of Wentzville, MO; as well as brothers, Randy Norton (Mary) of St. Genevieve, MO, Mark Norton (Julie) of Silex, MO and his sister Sandy Jerome (Bill) of Tavernier, FL. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Chael Moll of Elsberry, MO and Adelyne Bay Norton of Tavernier, FL and several nieces and nephews, including his closest friend Skyler McGarry, Tavernier, FL.
Services will be held at Burton Memorial United Methodist Church in Tavernier at 2 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 15.
